Hypnosis is actually a natural state of mind. You may be surprised to learn that we all go in and out of hypnosis multiple times per day - when we are absorbed in a good novel or caught up in a sports game, when we cry during a movie, when we don't remember driving from A to B, or when we are simply daydreaming.

 

Hypnosis can simply be defined as a relaxed, yet focused state of awareness, in which the mind is more receptive to new ideas and positive suggestions. The difference in Hypno-therapy is that there is a specific goal and focus for the session & a guide (Hypnotherapist) to take you there. Hypnotherapy allows you to tap into your own inner wisdom, as well as follow the suggestions and techniques of the Hypnotherapist in order to affect positive change.

Freud described the mind as an iceberg, stating that the conscious mind (the level that we are aware of in our everyday lives) is only the tip of the iceberg. Yet 95% of the iceberg resides underwater - the subconscious mind. This is the part of the mind responsible for repetitive thought patterns, habits & behaviours.

Just like a record on repeat, we are all unknowingly controlled by our subconscious beliefs, so no matter how often we tell ourselves not to eat that extra cookie, stay up late or react to our spouse in the same old way, we find ourselves subconsciously doing it anyway! As we repeat the same limiting thought patterns and unwanted behaviours for years on end, we prove to ourselves that change is incredibly difficult for the conscious mind. In Hypnosis, we are able to drop beneath the conscious mind into the realm of the subconscious and subsequently rewire those old limiting habits and beliefs.

The uses of Hypnotherapy range from overcoming unwanted thought patterns, habits or behaviours such as overeating, procrastinating & addictive behaviours, conquering fears & phobias, relieving anxiety & panic, releasing trauma, boosting confidence & performance, decision making, mental focus, memory recall, life guidance, overcoming grief and loss, to support for medical conditions, pain management, relief from insomnia, weight management & childbirth preparation. It can be used for just about anything. The only limit is your imagination!

Mindscaping (In Person or Online)

A technique developed by Master Hypnotherapist & Trainer Mike Mandel, Mindscaping works under the premise that your mind already contains all of the answers it needs. Under a very light trance a 3D mind map of is constructed. The subconscious mind is guided to navigate through the territory of an issue & find metaphorical answers, which ripple up into daily life, creating long lasting effects. No conscious awareness of the issue or resolution is required. It is very similar to how the subconscious mind can often process life via metaphors in our dreams. It does not require the client to consciously delve into past trauma or negative emotions & is suitable for those not comfortable with the idea of a deep hypnotic state, as it is more similar to a meditation or dream state. Mindscaping can be used with any issue from anxiety & depression, to decision making & procrastination, to weight loss or immune support.

What does Hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis feels a little different for everyone, but is a deeply relaxed, dream like state, somewhere in-between the waking and sleep state. Some people may notice their bodies become very heavy, whilst others may experience a light, floaty feeling in trance.

Can I get stuck in trance?

No. Hypnosis is a natural state and as such you would naturally wake from a trance, even if you were left alone.

​

Can anyone be hypnotized?

Yes. Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that we all enter into at least twice per day - on awaking and drifting to sleep. All that is required from you is a willingness to follow the suggestions of the Hypnotherapist, in order to experience a pleasant state of trance.

Will the Hypnotherapist be in control of me?

No. In Hypnosis your subconscious mind is in control and will guide you to where you need to go.

​

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required depends on the issue you are working with and is different for every person. Generally, you will see significant improvement in just one session & some issues may be completely resolved. For deep transformational work three or more sessions are recommended. 

 

Are Online Sessions as effective as In Person sessions?

Absolutely! Hypnosis is a state of mind that you create primarily through listening to the Hypnotherapist and following their guidance. Therefore inducing trance works the same online as in person.

 

Is there Homework?

Yes. You will be given short & easy self hypnosis techniques to practise at home. My goal is to equip you with all the tools that you need to manage your mental state. For some clients audios may also be recommended. Science has proven the power of repetition in retraining the mind. As with anything in life, the more you put into it, the more you get out of it.
